APAC News: Chilli IQ Lawtech event kicks off with a bang on the news front

Tomorrow (Thursday 12th September) sees the Chilli IQ Lawtech Summit kick off at Noosa, Queensland – and there are some exciting legal IT news stories to coincide with it…
First off, this morning Perth-based Lavan Legal  announced it had selected the NetDocuments cloud-based enterprise solution to meet its document and email management, collaboration and security needs. NetDocuments is starting to gain traction in the DMS world as an alternative to OpenText, iManage and Microsoft SharePoint applications. Lavan Legal was introduced to NetDocuments’ cloud-based document management service through Feynbrook, a NetDocuments Certified Partner and consulting firm. “While iManage started out as the front runner, once Lavan was introduced to NetDocuments, they saw how it could provide increased efficiency in servicing their clients,” said Tony Brooks, Feynbrook CEO.
“As a firm focused on providing exceptional service to our clients, we view technology and innovation as an integral component to our operations and competitive advantage,” said Marco Marcello, manager of information systems at Lavan. “Early in the evaluation process it became apparent that NetDocuments was a standout option that fitted perfectly with our strategic direction.”
Secondly, the Australian legal IT services provider Ethan Group has just become a reseller and support partner for the entire Litéra legal software product portfolio, which includes the flagship Change-Pro document comparison application, which competes directly with similar products from Workshare and DocsCorp. Ethan have the brief to represent Litéra throughout the APAC region – it will be interesting to see how they go head-to-head with DocsCorp on the latter’s home turf.
Thirdly, Sparke Helmore has deployed the Inprotech IP platform from CPA Global to help provide a trademark portfolio management service to its clients. Because Inprotech is an online platform, it also allows clients to access the data directly and generate their own status reports.
Finally, Maurice Blackburn, has selected the Nikec Binder virtual loose-leaf ringbinder from Nikec Solutions as a new way of sharing matter documents with clients and between offices. Nikec Binder has been integrated with Autonomy iManage DMS and the Thomsn Reuters Elite MatterSphere matter management system. The deal was handled by Nikec’s Australian partner Ethan Group. (Ethan Group are sponsors at both LawTech and next week’s Janders Dean conference in Sydney.)
