Lexis Visualfiles 2014 unveils new key performance indicator functionality
With key performance indicators (KPIs) one of the in-house legal buzzwords for 2015, LexisNexis Enterprise Solutions has announced that Lexis Visualfiles 2014 will see the introduction of a new, interactive, out-of-the-box ready to use analytics capability. The legal workflow and case management system provides dynamic dashboards with drill-down charts offering snapshots of critical management information in areas such as time analysis, team and individual performance, matter lifecycle and client profitability.
This KPI functionality is free of charge and pre-installed in Visualfiles 2014. It is the first in a series of significant analytics and reporting features that are planned for introduction over the course of this year. “Real-time visibility of key metrics is a fundamental commercial requirement in today’s market environment,” commented Nigel Williams, Visualfiles product manager at LexisNexis Enterprise Solutions. “This new KPIs functionality is simple to use and yet powerful in the analysis it provides to the business in support of timely decision making.”

Document review web app SMASHDOCs showcased at LegalTech New York
A web app that simplifies document collaboration for lawyers was showcased earlier this month LegalTech New York. SMASHDOCs can be used in the cloud as a software-as-a-service solution or installed on the company’s own server. Each user can see who made which change proposal when with a simple click, as well as which modification was accepted or rejected by who, meaning one document contains the complete and secure history of its creation.
SMASHDOCs is the brainchild of the CEO and founder of Munich-based startup smartwork solutions, Christian Marchsreiter, who explained the venture by commenting: “We had a 58-page contract for our new office. The document went back and forth between our lawyers, ourselves and our landlord. Each time we got it back, there were new main versions and revised versions, always with new suggestions. Eventually it just turned into chaos!”

Workshare unveils Transact to simplify transaction management
Workshare has launched Transact, an application designed specifically to help groups of transactional lawyers organise and manage legal deals more effectively. Transact recreates the documents checklist on screen to provide a structured framework for file exchange by deal participants. It streamlines legal transactions by supporting all related document management tasks, including versioning of drafts, exchanging signature pages, and creating PDF bible versions once the deal has closed – saving huge amounts of administration time.
Ben Ridgway, Transact product manager and former Clifford Chance lawyer commented, “Lawyers often rely on unproductive email exchanges to manage legal transactions, leading to hours of unbillable time. Workshare Transact is unique in that it ensures all legal transactions are structured and organised from start to finish.”

Legal Decoder launches version 2.0 of its legal billing analytics tool
Legal Decoder has announced the launch of version 2.0 of its legal billing analytics tool, featuring its flagship Legal Spend Authentication (LSA) technology. LSA technology goes a step beyond enforcing a client’s billing guidelines by automatically measuring each invoice line item against supplemental rules and industry standards built on vast amounts of analysed legal spend information. Inefficiencies and problematic charges are detected and transformed into clear, immediately actionable information.
Joseph Tiano, CEO of Legal Decoder and a former partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, said: “In-house counsel do not have sufficient time, actionable data or intelligent analytics tools to optimally manage outside counsel, better inform strategic initiatives and accurately predict and control legal spend.”

DocsCorp releases cleanDocs Mobile
DocsCorp has announced the release of cleanDocs Mobile, a complement to its next generation metadata management software, cleanDocs Desktop, which was released last year. cleanDocs Mobile cleans documents sent from mobile devices, Outlook Web Access or any source where cleanDocs Desktop has not cleaned the document. The combined cleanDocs solution can remove more than 100 metadata types from documents at sub-second speeds, eliminating bottlenecks and reducing lost productivity for desktop and mobile users.
Commenting on the release, Dean Sappey, DocsCorp president and co-founder said that cleanDocs was more than a metadata cleaning tool. “It is a unified approach to metadata management that recognizes the need for a more flexible, secure and user-friendly solution for both desktop and mobile users.”

World Software Corporation announces launch of Worldox GX4 and Worldox Web 2.0
Another showcase at LegalTech New York, Worldox GX4 is a redesigned major release of the Worldox document and email management product line, while Worldox Web 2.0 promises to provide browser-based and mobile access to Worldox content from anywhere. Increased functionality introduced by GX4 includes the ability to save a document with one click without being required to fill out profile information. There is a new toolbar icon available in applications such as Microsoft Office that enables the user to quickly retrieve those files.
President Ray Zwiefelhofer comments, “With this latest product line I we believe we have hit the mark with a truly effortless document management experience. With executive summary views, one-click saves, and active email profiling, our initial test groups have been impressed with efficiency gains.” The anticipated release of Worldox GX4 is early spring 2015.
