Legal Librarians to Chart the High Cs at Brighton Conference

Collaboration, Co-operation and Connectivity is the theme being explored at this year’s conference of the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL). The 46th Annual BIALL Study Conference and Exhibition will be held at the Hilton Brighton Metropole from Thursday 11 to Saturday 13 June 2015. This conference is the premier event for the legal information sector, providing opportunities for information professionals to review current expertise and evolve to improve and keep pace with modern technologies and tools.
A highlight of the event is the Willi Steiner Memorial Lecture, delivered by Professor Stephen Mayson (pictured), chair of the review of legislative options beyond the Legal Services Act 2007 that will report on options for the future development of legal services regulation. In his speech Professor Mayson will consider ways in which information professionals can support the evolution of legal services, delivering potentially profound changes to the ways in which the law profession serves the public.
Following the President’s Reception on Friday evening, the work of law librarians will be celebrated with the prestigious LexisLibrary Awards, and the announcement of the BIALL-Wildy Law Librarian of the Year. Amongst other avenues to explore are a variety of presentations and workshops, such as The Monkey and the Camera, focusing on the famous ‘macaque selfie’ which hit the media in 2014, and a senior managers’ stream for professionals at or aspiring to this status. BIALL members will be able to put forward their views at the Association’s Annual General Meeting, and there’ll be lots of chances to meet and engage with current and potential suppliers at the Conference Exhibition.
