Brodies highlights ISO 27001 certification and tech investment as it reports 11.2% revenue growth to £57.9m

Having continued to invest in technology over the past financial year Brodies has unveiled an 11.2% increase in its 2014/15 turnover to £57.9m, with highlights including becoming one of the first UK law firms to achieve certification to the 2013 version of ISO 27001 for its information security management system.
The top 60 firm, which saw its profits grow by 14.2%, was awarded the ISO accreditation in November 2014 for its information security management system.
Key steps included using MetaCompliance software to as a tool to publish the firm’s security policy, with alerts popping up on users screens until they indicate that they have read the policy.
Brodies IT director Damien Behan told the Insider: “The biggest hurdle was staff awareness. We could have ticked the boxes but we have gone over and above what was required and were very concerned that everyone understands their responsibilities.”
Last year also saw Brodies launch automated contract review business BOrganised, which provides clients with a secure central location to store contracts and supporting documentation that is available 24/7 and e-alerts so deadlines are not missed.
Behan, who joined Brodies in 2007 from Bird & Bird and before that was at Baker & McKenzie, said: “The firm really values technology and is conscious of trying to be innovative and making sure technology is there to support all that we’re doing for the client.”
Other innovation includes a clear desk policy implemented last year and the 603-staff law firm is now working towards an electronic working environment, which is being driven internally. Behan said: “It’s all very well to have someone come in but it’s about getting everyone on board and the partners are driving that shift.”
