Geldards takes control of printing with Kappris roll out

In order to control and decrease its printing, 300-staff UK law firm Geldards has implemented Kutana’s print solution Kappris, which manages printing within Microsoft Office and integrates with the firm’s document management system, WorkSite.
Led by IT director Huw Wigley, the Midlands, Wales and London-based firm was replacing its existing printers with Canon multi-function devices. Kappris was installed to enhance the firm’s new follow-me print software.
Kappris streamlines email printing and cuts the waste caused by printing email threads, by enabling the user to easily select the number of email conversations to be printed and to print attachments at the same time as emails.
Kappris enables administrators to define how lawyers print via a selection of pre-selected print modes, to ensure that they are printing their document in the correct manner and most efficiently. The software also enables administrators to quickly add additional print modes when required.
At Geldards, standard Word document templates are managed by Tikit’s Template Management System and the implementation of Kappris has simplified the print mode management of these templates.
Colour printing is now more controlled and Geldards plans to continue working with Kutana to explore how they can further reduce printing within the firm.
Wigley, who was also keen for the firm to become ‘greener’, said: “There has been an immediate reduction in printing due to the introduction of different default print modes and we have seen a reduction in paper waste from email thread printing. The integration with WorkSite provides the user with the correct file name at the MFD’s and improves the user experience.”
Firms to have rolled out Kappris last year include Kingsley Napley, Travers Smith and Nabarro.
Founded in 1993 as legal IT consultants, Kutana homed in on templates, macros and print management as ‘pain points’ that needed addressing, moving into development in 1997.
