Sutherland Asbill & Brennan has signed up with Aderant Expert as its new financial and practice management system, just over two years after the Washington-headquartered law firm bought Thomson Reuters Elite 3E.
TRE announced in March 2014 that Sutherland had purchased 3E and legal process management tool Engage, which, in December 2014, TRE said it would end regular updates for, with the platform going into maintenance mode.
Sutherland, which is ranked at Am Law 107 of highest grossing U.S. firms by the American Lawyer and has around 380 lawyers, chose Engage to “deliver profitable matters with predictable pricing in the high risk areas of alternative fee engagements,” according to TRE’s press release.
“Partnering with Elite to implement 3E and Engage presents an opportunity to start fresh with a new system that not only matches our current business requirements, but also allows us to quickly and easily adapt as the needs of both our business and our clients change,” said David Smith, CFO at Sutherland in 2014.
“The 3E platform provides us with leading-edge technology and a financial management solution designed to meet the ever-changing demands of our firm. Additionally, Engage gives us a competitive advantage by providing predictable pricing and ensuring client outcomes meet expectations.”
Yesterday (19 July) Smith said of the Aderant selection: “We are impressed by Aderant’s record of success with its Expert solution. We look forward to a rapid implementation.”
Sutherland will be using Aderant’s Expert Found Time time reconstruction tool, File Opening, Conflicts, and Collections alongside the financial management suite. Additionally, the firm has chosen to implement the newly released Spotlight Analytics business intelligence solution and MatterWorks for legal project management.
