Bird & Bird has today (21 October) unveiled its Digital Innovators Power List, which celebrates some of the most visionary digital companies in and around London and includes cybersecurity firms ComplyAdvantage and Darktrace.
The list, created in conjunction with City AM and supporting partners, identifies 20 of the most innovative young companies across the media, healthtech, fintech, edtech, cybersecurity and identity sectors.
Other cybersecurity companies to be named are Digital Shadows and Yoti. Digital Shadows is a Canary Wharf-based company whose Searchlight platform offers clients greater cyber situational awareness by analysing the organisation through an attacker’s eye view. Yoti, meanwhile, specialises in creating digital identities through methods including approved facial recognition technology.
ComplyAdvantage featured in Legal IT Insider on 14 October after raising $8.2m in Series A Funding. The Notting Hill-based startup provides a global database on AML risk exposures and transaction monitoring covering sanctions, watchlists, Political Exposed Persons and adverse media. Darktrace, which uses machine learning techniques to detect cyber threats within computer networks in real time, is backed by Invoke Capital, a $1bn investment fund set up by Autonomy founder Mike Lynch.
The criteria for selection into Bird & Bird’s power list means that companies must be perceived to be trend setters rather than followers, hold revenue generating potential, and are creating a buzz on social media.
The ‘sector experts’ are all from the UK top 20 firm and include partners Mark Abell, Ali Ramadan and Sally Shorthose, as well as senior associate Bryony Hurst and associate Alexander Payne.
In her analysis of the cybersecurity power list, Hurst, who specialises in the area, says: “While cybersecurity is at least these days on the radar of most commercial organisations, it remains an agenda item which the company’s IT and legal experts sometimes struggle to persuade the board to address with the level of attention it truly merits.”
