Jason Marty has taken over as Baker McKenzie’s global chief operating officer from Craig Courter, who is said by the firm to be looking for new opportunities outside of the firm.
Marty, who joined Bakers in 2001, has for the last three years been responsible for the launch and the operation of Baker’s Global Services Centre in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and co-leads the firm’s global innovation programme.
Paul Rawlinson, global chair Baker McKenzie said: “I am delighted to welcome Jason as our new COO and to the global executive. His global experience and success in the wide variety of roles he has carried out at Baker McKenzie means he is very well placed to succeed in this vital position.”
He added: “I also want to thank Craig for his enormous contribution to the firm over a long period during which he has been an invaluable member of the leadership team and managed a number of very substantial firm projects and leaves a legacy of a solid platform and professional services team for the future.”
Marty said: “I am looking forward to taking on the COO role and working into the future with firm leadership and our teams worldwide. This is a time of great change and opportunity in the legal industry and I am excited to do my part to ensure that Baker McKenzie continues to adapt and grow stronger.”
Marty will take up the role on July 1 and will be based in Chicago. In March, Bakers appointed James Richards as executive director in Belfast, taking over from Marty.
