Startup corner: E3 Compliance Training in focus

E3 Compliance Training makes compliance training fun and engaging by using games that can be played on your mobile or in the office. It has a cool website – we want to have a go on the ‘Why is AML important’ and we don’t care about AML. And, fyi, it’s looking at investment.
How would you describe your company to a friend?
We make compliance training fun and engaging.
And if you had to describe it to a tech?
We use the approaches used in free to play mobile games to develop apps that provide compliance training to a range of regulated industries. We see that fun and engaging training will support a firm’s compliance regime with less friction than current approaches. With the addition of data analytics to provide effective analysis of performance, we enable firms to quickly understand areas of strength and areas for improvement.
When were you founded?
November 2015.
By who?
E3 Compliance Training was established by 3 founders: Steve Brett; Dave Allsopp; and Nicolas Pylypiuk.
Steve looks after sales and works with our external partners who provide the course content.
Dave is our games designer he makes sure that all the courses we produce are fun and engaging and develops the game engine that deliver our courses.
Nicolas is our technology and design guru looking after all the systems needed to run the games and support our customer’s operational processes.
Who are your key managers/senior execs?
The founders run the company.
What is your growth strategy?
We will look to develop courses for a wider range of regulated companies and to support companies outside the UK.
Have you received investment?
No. We have self-funded the business to date but we are currently looking at investment.
Who are your target clients?
Today we are working with legal and financial services firms that have more than one office where ensuring that all staff have had the required compliance training with current approaches can be challenging.
Have there been any key changes in direction since you were founded?
We spent a lot of time in the early days looking at different opportunities to see how we could add gamification to solve real problems that we had experienced working in other companies. We may well come back to work on some of these ideas in the future but we have focussed on compliance training as it is an area that has had little innovation and is becoming increasingly important to organisations as regulators become more demanding.
What are the key challenges you face in your market?
Awareness that there is a better way to provide online compliance training.
What are the most exciting developments you’ve seen in your market in the past year to 18 months?
I would say artificial intelligence although these tools are only just starting to be have an impact. AI will have a profound impact on all knowledge based jobs and I see that these tools will open up new ways of working.
Tell us something that people don’t already know about the company?
I would say one of our founders made a first ascent of a remote peak in the interior of Greenland.
