We’re on the verge of becoming a bit blase about the big numbers being bandied around in legal technology but TrademarkNow – an intelligent web-based trademark management platform for instant trademark clearance – has just received a cool €3 million investment from Karma Ventures, Balderton Capital and Montiko GmbH and and additional €2 million loan from Finnvera.
The previous $3.5m investment in 2014 by Balderton Capital enabled the company’s rapid expansion to 37 employees and the addition of a presence in the US, Ireland, UK and Germany, building on TrademarkNow’s headquarters in Helsinki, Finland. Mikael Kolehmainen, CEO of TrademarkNow said: “Our clients operate in an increasingly demanding marketplace and our emphasis is strongly on continuing to evolve and improve our products to help them meet those demands even more easily. This investment round gives us the capacity to do that… and so much more.”
Here’s the full release:
TrademarkNow provides an intelligent web-based trademark management platform that is used by enterprise companies, law firms and branding agencies for instant trademark clearance and watch results. Founded in 2012, the company has made significant inroads into disrupting a traditional market previously dominated by legacy providers.
This disruption is reflected in the recent €3 million investment by Karma Ventures, Balderton Capital and Montiko GmbH and and additional €2 million loan from Finnvera. Karma Ventures invests in European startups with strong technical differentiation and global ambition. “We are very excited with TrademarkNow’s disruptive solution powered by deep technical differentiation and excellent execution. Significant and quickly growing global customer base is a great proof of the value that TrademarkNow has created”, says Margus Uudam, Partner at Karma Ventures.

This focus on client-driven improvement is evident in the company’s relaunch this month of its flagship NameCheck trademark clearance product. NameCheck’s completely-redesigned interface was developed with the assistance of industry experts and the company’s enthusiastic client base, who have been keen to help drive the evolution of a system designed to resolve the many time-consuming roadblocks of typical trademark processes. New features include flexible search result viewing panels, adjustable risk scores and filtering options, greater customisation of downloadable reports, and a new executive summary at the head of each report which in many cases will permit clearance at a glance. The company continues to add PTO databases at a rapid clip, including the addition this month of 15 Middle Eastern countries’ databases.
TrademarkNow’s platform has been created by experts in trademark law and linguistics. Our cutting edge system also utilises state-of-the-art machine-learning techniques to produce models that seamlessly take real world complexities into account.
While the underlying intelligence is complex, the platform’s intuitive design and simple user interface makes it very easy to use. The result: faster, smarter trademark clearance, watch and analysis. Visit www.trademarknow.com for more details.
