Macfarlanes IT director to run half marathon in full ice hockey kit – help!

Macfarlanes IT director Andrew Powell will on 14 October run the Royal Parks Half Marathon in full ice hockey kit to raise money for Action for Children and the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. UK children’s charity Action for Children is also Legal IT Insider’s elected charity and does the most incredible work protecting vulnerable and neglected young people. Please get behind Andrew, he’ll need your support.
Andrew tells us: “There is, remarkably, a world record for ice hockey half marathons and after a number of early morning treadmill sessions in body armour and leg pads I reckon I’m within a couple of minutes of breaking it.”
He adds: “The record stands at 2:04hrs and doing that is probably *just* achievable as long as it is a much cooler day than last year, and I pace myself properly – I ran the first 5k in 22 mins dressed as a bear last year and paid for it…”
To add to the sense of occasion, Andrew will be joined by a friend dressed as an elephant and he tell us: “If nothing else it should all be quite surreal.”
The money raised will go towards Macfarlanes fundraising total for Byte Night – an annual event that sees the IT and business services community all over the country sleep out on the streets to raise money for Action for Children.
