Logic Programming Associates joins Barclays Eagle Labs incubator

The team that created the first Prolog system for small machines and co-founded leading document automation platform Contract Express have joined the Barclays Eagle Labs lawtech incubator in Notting Hill, London. Logic Programming Associates (LPA), which in 2004 launched expert systems tool VisiRule, will be working with the Labs legal partners and other startups to “develop worthwhile commercial applications” for the sector.
VisiRule is a graphical tool for non-programmers to develop rule-based and expert systems launched in 2004. It followed a partnership between LPA and the firm then known as Tarlo Lyons (now Blake Lapthorn) that led to the creation of Business Integrity, which launched Contract Express and sold it to Thomson Reuters in 2015.
Clive Spenser, a founding director of Business Integrity and now marketing director at LPA said: “We are excited to be joining Barclays in this initiative and working with their legal partners as well as mingling with other innovative LawTech start-ups. AI technology is poised to disrupt the delivery of legal services and this incubator can help us identify and develop worthwhile commercial applications in the legal sector.
“There is a wide range of skillsets in the UK, and we believe that we have the right combination of expertise and technology at LPA to develop and supply innovative AI solutions to the legal sector both in the UK but also overseas. Small companies like LPA need a supportive environment with access to legal content and legal know-how.”
Here is what re wrote in 2001 about Business Integrity (the page above is left on for date purposes). We know that BI went on to win a few more deals than that.
