Christina Blacklaws joins Mason & Cook as NED to support UK and international growth

Christina Blacklaws, the past president of the Law Society of England & Wales has joined work allocation experts Mason & Cook, as a non-executive director. She will focus on supporting the firm in achieving its growth strategy both in the UK, and internationally. This will include the expansion of the firm’s existing consulting services and the growth of their technology product – Vantage.
Blacklaws will join the Mason & Cook Board, working closely with the leadership team, including BigHand’s co-founder Gordon McAlpine, who was appointed as an NED to the firm in 2018 and the firm’s advisory board. Here’s our announcement at the time of that appointment: https://legaltechnology.com/latest-news/gordon-mcalpine-joins-mason-cook-to-lead-global-tech-product-launch/
You’ll recall that Vantage tracks and monitors teams’ activities and helps partners to achieve better (and arguably fairer) utilisation of fee-earners’ time plus make sure work is going to the right place from a client perspective.
Dave Cook, CEO of Mason & Cook, said: “We are absolutely delighted to attract an individual of such high standing in the global legal market to our business. We have ambitious growth plans over the next few years, including building on our current offering within the U.S. market. Christina will play a key role in ensuring our services and products maintain the high standards for which we are known, whilst advising on delivering on our plans for growth.
“Christina is at the forefront of driving efficiency, innovation and equality across the legal profession, with a focus on using technology as a key enabler. It is a huge compliment to us, and our work, that she has joined the Mason & Cook team.”
Blacklaws says that her appointment will help marry her twin passions for equality and innovation, commenting: “What I learned from the global Women in Leadership in Law programme which I spearheaded at The Law Society, was the vital importance of getting good quality work and access to great clients at an early stage of women’s careers. The work allocation technology and process programme that Mason and Cook have designed and successfully delivered to many of the largest firms in the UK enables fair, transparent and efficient allocation and that works for everyone.”
