ILTA update: Marketing and comms restructure PLUS Rush wins Monica Bay award

Things have been fairly quiet on the ILTA front but this week came the news that the body’s marketing and communications team is being restructured (and the role of VP of that team eliminated), and that CEO Joy Heath Rush has been selected as the winner of the fifth Monica Bay STEM Leadership Award.
First marketing, and ILTA announced at the start of the week that as it continues to innovate, it is realigning professional staff to both increase internal efficiency and better serve its volunteers, members, and business partners.
A statement said: “We have made the decision to restructure our marketing and communications team. Effective Monday, October, 7, 2019, ILTA has eliminated the VP of marketing and communications role.” That role has been held to date by Patti Moran.
We asked Rush what’s behind the announcement and she said: “In studying our marketing function, I decided that a decentralised structure would result in greater agility. We will be embedding marketing specialists in our groups to create more focus on membership and events etc, while improving internal communication.”
If you have ILTA marketing or communications questions, you can reach out to Corey Simpson, VP of Operations ([email protected]).
Also this week, the Monica Bay STEM Leadership Committee announced that it has selected Rush as the winner of the fifth annual Monica Bay STEM Leadership Award. The award recognises outstanding leadership qualities and innovation achieved in the legal technology industry. Rush will receive the award during Legalweek New York, February 4-6, 2020, in association with the International Legal Technology Association Women Who Lead group.
Rush, since taking over the role of CEO in October 2018, has done an outstanding job of steadying the ILTA ship and returning a feeling of inclusiveness to the body. She is also, if this counts for anything, one of the nicest people in the industry.
On receiving the award, Rush said: “I am humbled by this award. I have admired Monica Bay from the day I first read one of her columns. To be recognised in Monica’s name makes me prouder than I can express. In addition, to join the prior award recipients is truly an honour!”
Donna Payne, steering committee member of the Monica Bay STEM Leadership Committee, stated, “Joy exemplifies every quality that the Monica Bay STEM Leadership award represents. Her accomplishments in her career, work ethic and dedication to helping others, along with her latest role as CEO of ILTA make Joy the perfect choice for this award.”
The selection committee this year consisted of Donna Payne, Gail Gottehrer, Judith Flournoy, Nishan DeSilva and Robert Ambrogi.
