DocuSign is expanding its operations across Southern Europe, with dedicated sales, marketing & customer success teams in both Italy and Spain.
The leading eSignature vendor announced the expansion today (7 June), with Ronan Copeland, group vice president & general manager for EMEA commenting: “Italy and Spain are pioneers in the adoption and legal recognition of electronic signatures and we are thrilled to further expand our footprint in EMEA by launching dedicated operations in these important markets.”
Electronic signatures have been legally recognised in Italy and Spain since 1999, and both countries have also adopted the EU-wide eIDAS regulation that standardised the recognition of e-signature in 2014. Spain uses e-signature for a range of procedures, including for documents related to lawsuits, which are electronically signed prior to being submitted to LexNET Justicia, a platform for the secure exchange of judicial information. Any responses issued by a public authority are also filed via electronic means and therefore electronically signed as well.
In Italy, electronic signatures are commonly used and Italy was one of the first countries in the world to pass legislation addressing the legality of electronic signature. According to AGID (Agenzia per l’Italia Digitale), today there are more than 20 million active electronic signature users in Italy.
Copelan added: “The use of electronic and certificate-based signatures is widespread in the public and private sectors across both Italy and Spain, and we are seeing strong organic demand for our electronic signature solution in these markets. We are looking forward to helping even more companies transition to a safer, more reliable and more efficient way of creating, signing and managing their digital agreements.”
