Scottish law firm Thorntons to migrate from Enterprise to 3E

Leading Scottish law firm Thorntons Law is to migrate to Thomson Reuters Elite 3E, moving off Elite’s sunsetted Enterprise practice management system.

Thorntons is one of Scotland’s largest and most respected full-service legal and property firms, with 14 offices across Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Angus, Fife, and Perth. It has 64 partners and 490 other legal professionals and business support colleagues.

The firm says it went with 3E because of its ‘long and trusted’ relationship with Thomson Reuters plus the level of flexibility, support, and customization which 3E offers.

It has opted to use two additional modules: workflow platform Workspace with Always-on Time for time capture, and 3E Templates, which will be hosted in the cloud.

“When it came time to move our firm to the next foundational technology platform, Thomson Reuters was absolutely the right choice for our business,” said Sarah Blair, director of IT at Thorntons. “Our move to 3E with add-on, cloud-based modules absolutely fits with the implementation of our cloud strategy. From billing improvements to powerful, passive time recording and robust integration capabilities, 3E is an important bedrock to continue the firm’s digital transformation.”

Harking back to the weight that the firm placed on its existing relationship with Thomson Reuters, Andrew Getley, innovation manager at Thorntons, said: “A key deciding factor for choosing 3E was the quality of support we have received from Thomson Reuters over the past 20 years.

“Their support team are world-class – always demonstrating that they know how our business, and the Scottish legal market, works. In addition we’re confident that we’ll be able to integrate 3E seamlessly with our other systems negating the age-old challenges created from re-entering data.”
