The Orange Rag Newsletter is Here!

Hi, and welcome to the September Orange Rag; our first newsletter since the July/August break, all those many moons ago.

Following its smash of a conference in August, ILTA’s annual survey is now out, providing a vital guide as to the way the market is moving on everything from infrastructure to video conferencing to core systems and security. It’s been a good year for Aderant, plus there has been a jump in numbers expecting to move to the iManage Cloud – take a look at our top story below for the statistics.

There has been some big product news this month, with Shearman & Sterling becoming the first Am Law 50 law firm to move its practice management system to Elite 3E Cloud, which Shearman tells us is now ‘ready.’ You can read or revisit our exclusive in-depth interview with the senior execs at Shearman below. Conversations around the cloud still get stuck on ‘what will clients say,’ but having already engaged with clients on its move to the iManage Cloud last year, Shearman tells us that shifting its financial data off premises was simply a case of sending an email. Practice management news will dominate for a while as firms move off sunsetted Elite Enterprise.

September was also a big month for Thomson Reuters Westlaw, with a new version of the legal research platform now out that Thomson says cuts research time in half. It was our most shared story on LinkedIn, and you can catch that right at the end of the newsletter.

As usual you can catch up on all the latest legal tech news of the month here – we have departures at Fliplet; KPMGs new legal function assessment suite; and the somewhat lighter Ig Nobel Prize for a scientific paper on why contracts are difficult to understand. Plus, the usual wins, deal, moves, and merger.

Our startup this month is transaction management platform dealcloser, where CEO Amir Reshef gives us the lowdown on the Canadian-headquartered company.
