*Updated on 7 December to clarify that Finlegal works with the UK arm of Hausfeld and that RPC and Shoosmiths are users of its litigation funding marketplace.
UK- headquartered class action and mass torts automation provider and funder FinLegal (formerly disputed.io) has appointed Connor Goggin, as a senior product specialist, to grow its business in the United States. Finlegal works with UK firms including Maurice Blackburn, Keller Postman and Harcus Parker on claims automation, while RPC and Shoosmiths are users of its litigation funding marketplace. It works with the UK arm of Washington headquartered disputes practice Hausfeld.
Goggin, who is based in Pennsylvania, was previously sales development manager at outsourced business consulting and services firm Revity.
Commenting on the news, Finlegal’s CEO, Steve Shinn said: “Many US law firms and claims administrators struggle to obtain information from claimants in a timely fashion and spend unnecessary hours on offline administration and communication. They desperately need online solutions in mass torts, class action, and mass arbitration.
“Our solution helps firms reduce the man hours and costs associated with these cases by automating the qualifying, information gathering, and correspondence with claimants and third parties. This leads to more engaged claimants and more fees for firms. I am delighted that Connor has joined us to solidify our presence in such an important jurisdiction.”
Goggin said: “Our platform solves the key challenges that class action and mass torts law firms face including claimant dropout and labour-intensive administration. I am looking forward to working with Steve and the team to establish FinLegal as the leading claims automation solution across the US.”
Comment: This has been quite the week for young companies expanding outside of their home jurisdiction. Today we announced that Australia-founded document verification vendor Atticus is growing in the UK with the relocation of Tom Ray, and last week Tokyo-based legal tech startup LegalOn launched in the US with the hire of Daniel Lewis, the co-founder and CEO of Ravel Law (acquired by LexisNexis.)
