Epona merges with JustiSolutions, vendor of leading Danish case management system

Dutch SharePoint-based document management system provider Epona has merged with JustiSolutions, vendor of leading Danish legal case management system Unik Advosys. The deal was driven by Main Capital Partners, the majority stakeholder in both Epona and JustiSolutions, which will retain its majority ownership following the transaction.

This combination brings together two companies of comparable size to form a legaltech provider with a global footprint across multiple markets and industries.

Epona’s portfolio includes document management systems (DMS) and customer relationship management (CRM) software, which integrates with Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, and Teams. Their flagship Epona365 system delivers features such as document and email management, team collaboration, matter intake, contract management, workflow automation, and CRM functionality. Today, Epona serves a global customer base of over 400 law firms and corporate legal departments. Main acquired a majority stake in Epona in 2023.

JustiSolutions is a newly established entity, spun off from Unik System Design – a leading provider of proptech and legaltech solutions in Denmark – which Main acquired a majority stake in in September 2023. JustiSolutions will continue offering the Unik Advosys system, used daily by more than 400 law firms and corporate legal departments across Denmark. Furthermore, the development of a SaaS-based JustiCase system aims to expand the company’s value proposition.

Marcel Lang, co-CEO of Epona, told Legal IT Insider: “This is excellent news for all our customers. Epona will get more than 800 customers (including law firms and corporates) and will become larger in resources and therefore can provide even better services to our clients.”

He added: “Epona365, the legal document system on Microsoft365, is growing as  never before: firms are getting bigger and and Epona will support this.” In a possible nod to the future Lang said: “This means we are very happy and looking forward to future add-ons joining the Epona group to become even a bigger player in legaltech.”
