LegalRM bolsters global growth with former BlackBerry and Kim senior hires

UK-founded records management and information governance vendor LegalRM has hired former BlackBerry enterprise account manager Faron Lyons as sales director in North America, and Kim Technologies pre-sales consultant George Steven as senior business analyst, we can reveal. Both started at the beginning of January. The hires come following a year of record growth: LegalRM doubled its revenue and profit over the past 12-15 months and also doubled its headcount, with further hires in the pipeline.

Lyons will work in close partnership with Kandace Donovan, vice president of operations for North America, to spearhead LegalRM’s growth across the U.S. and Canada, with ambitions to enter the corporate legal space. He was at BlackBerry for almost seven years and, while the majority of his past experience has not been in the legal sector, he spent just over six years at OpenText as a sales executive from 2008 to 2014.

Steven, meanwhile, brings extensive experience in delivering digital transformation and innovation, particularly within the legal and in-house sectors. His previous roles include managing consultant at Norton Rose Fulbright, chief technology officer at DocGovern, and pre-sales engineer at AbacusNext.

Speaking to Legal IT Insider, Chris Giles, LegalRM’s CEO and founder said that LegalRM has won a roster of high profile clients in the UK and US over the past year, commenting: “Firms are looking closely at AI but for that they need data integrity, and that requires good information governance. These hires are moving us from a startup to that next level by bringing in really good senior people.”

LegalRM is benefiting from a number of factors aside from an increased focus on information governance among law firms, particularly the flux at the small number of competitors in the market including iManage (IRM 6.4 and 6.5 will be retired in May this year and there are currently some multi-tenant public cloud compatibility limitations) and Filetrail (which has been acquired by Litera).

LegalRM caters for electronic and physical records: firms have the option of using iCompli’s barcode tracking or RFID capabilities for managing physical records in conjunction with the system’s information governance features, within one user interface.
