Belgian legal due diligence startup Jurimesh has closed a €1.6m pre-seed funding round, led by Brussels-headquartered international investment network Syndicate One, and joined by several business angels. The funds will be used to further fine-tune its AI-driven offering and expand geographically.
Founded in 2023 by computer scientist Jorrit Willaert and software engineer Jasper De Moor, Jurimesh has collaborated with boutique M&A law firms to work out how best to attack the inefficiencies of manual due diligence. It scans large volumes of documents in a data room, identifying potential risk and key information such as unfavourable contract terms, compliance gaps, and intellectual property red flags, generating detailed due diligence reports.
Jurimesh’s clients notably include accountancy firm Grant Thornton and also Quorum, where managing partner Davy Gorselé said: “Jurimesh helps us structure information faster and automatically identify contractual risks. It improves both efficiency and the quality of our legal advice.”
The Jurimesh business angel list is long but includes Michiel Denis, former head of growth at Henchman, which was acquired last year by LexisNexis. Other angels include Matthias Geeroms (Lighthouse), Jeroen De Wit (Teamleader), Roeland Delrue (Aikido), Michiel Bearelle (Officient, Vendorvue), Kris Moeremans (Intersentia), Marc Coppens (Yuki), Koen Vandaele (Deloitte), and Anthony De Clerck (Dovesco).
“We believe Jurimesh is charting a new path in legal tech at a time when the market is increasingly eager for AI-driven solutions,” said Hans Kayaert of Syndicate One. “While legal AI has so far largely focused on broad horizontal applications, Jorrit and Jasper impressed us with their sharp focus on perfecting the specific task of legal due diligence — demonstrating the next chapter in the evolution of legal AI.”
Fun fact: The founders met on Bumble Bizz – some of you may know the dating app Bumble, but it also has a professional networking side. Check it out here: https://bumble.com/en/bizz
