Docusign today (16 April) unveiled purpose-built AI contract agents that can analyse agreements and flag risks, accelerating key processes in the contract lifecycle.
The new release builds on Docusign Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM); AI-powered cloud software that enables organisations to create and manage agreements through a single platform. The agents, built on Docusign’s AI engine Iris, can be deployed throughout the agreement lifecycle — from identifying the most urgent tasks and surfacing all related agreements in its document repository Navigator, to recommending specific language updates to ensure compliance.
A video that goes alongside this announcement shows various use cases for the new agent technology. When you log into IAM you will see all requests in one place and Iris can help you sort through those requests by evaluating deadlines and conversational history to help you decide what is most urgent, if that is needed. But it gets more clever.
You can navigate to the most urgent request, where Iris can highlight the risk factors (such as an approaching contract deadline) and help you to find the relevant documents. The agent technology kicks in if you decide to automate the process: they can successively analyse vendor risk by reviewing third party sources; retrieve the latest documents from Navigator; flag outdated terms by cross referencing legal standards with AI assisted review. You can follow every step in the right hand pane and click in to the details. Where there are red flags such as a change in vendor risk profile, or clauses that fail to meet legal standards, agents deliver a recommendation, such as negotiation. AI agents can also generate a notice letter for approval.
The first Docusign AI contract agents will become available in the U.S. by the end of this year and will start with a focus on procurement and sales workflows, where contract delays and compliance risks can lead to costly disruptions. While the company has long been moving away from just ‘the eSignature company’, this is another huge leap in the contract space.
“Every company wants to adopt AI, and contracts are a natural place to start, given the inefficient workflows, unstructured data, and lack of visibility,” said Allan Thygesen, CEO of Docusign.
“With over two decades of experience pioneering digital agreements, Docusign is uniquely positioned to make AI contract adoption seamless, just as we did with eSignature. Since launching the IAM platform last year, our customers have realized immediate value. Now with AI contract agents, we’re taking a major leap forward, bringing automation to the entire agreement management process.”
