Martin Carey, the long-time EMEA managing director of Kroll Ontrack’s Legal Technologies business, has resigned and is going to join Adrian Palmer at Palmer Legal Technologies (PLT). Carey had been the MD for over nine years, from when it was still called Oyez Legal Technologies. Kroll Ontrack has meanwhile appointment of Tim Phillips to EMEA managing director for its Legal Technologies business. Phillips has been with Kroll Ontrack since 2007, most recently as Sales Director for the European Region.

COMMENT: Our sources in the ediscovery world suggest there is a lot of demand for a “not Kroll” alternative. Palmer Legal Technologies was last year acquired by the global investigations firm Proven (part of the G3 Good Governance Group) and given Carey’s repuation as a big hitter in terms of sales and management, it looks as if Proven is now planning to expand the toehold they established by buying PLT. Proven’s board includes Tim Clark, a former senior partner of Slaughter & May; Peter Bevan, former GC & Executive VP of BP plc; and Lord Macdonald of River Glaven QC, former Director of Public Prosecutions who has returned to private practice at Matrix Chambers. www.palmerlegaltech.com
