Legal technology training provider BARBRI has acquired Lega, the platform founded by Christian Lang that enables law firms and other enterprises to explore generative AI technologies. Lang joins BARBRI in the newly-created role of head of innovation.
Speaking to Legal IT Insider about the acquisition, the value of which is undisclosed, BARBRI’s co-CEO Lucie Allen said: “This is a continuation of us supporting our clients who are law firms and corporations, as well as students and candidates in that continuing professional education space.
“We have a lot of content, but the world around us is changing. As we heard over the last few days at LegalTechTalk, and we hear every day, there’s a lot of noise. And in that noise, we think that hands on experiential training and learning is something that’s really going to make a difference.”
Where Lega has been used by law firms to build templates and leverage GenAI in practice, it will now purely be for learning and education purposes. Allen said: “That experiential piece is going to be critical. The platform that Christian has is essentially enabling us to then provide a sandbox to learners to go in and experiment and build things and build confidence and build AI fluency, and will fit really nicely in around all of our other offerings.
“It will also help us get closer to law firms and bridge some of that gap between law school and law firm, particularly in the US. So if you can think about those kind of sandbox learning experiential environments, we want to take some of that to law schools as well and run workshops and run hackathons. And again, enable people to get their hands dirty with a practical application.”
In terms of Lang’s role going forward, Allen said: “This is a brand new role and Christian is coming to help us build. He will be concentrating clearly on what we’ve just described out the gate because we want to get that, we want to get that started. But he’ll be, you know, very much in the middle of kind of strategy and product development and what we continue to do in that.”
