BIALL taking place in Glasgow in June
The British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL) is pleased to announce that the 44th BIALL Annual Study Conference and Exhibition is being held at The Hilton Hotel, Glasgow, from 13-to-15 June 2013. The Conference is the premier event for those working in the legal information sector.
The theme for this year’s conference is The Business of Law, and the programme will comprise presentations by invited speakers and BIALL’s members. Gillian Watt Programme Co-coordinator commented ‘The legal sector is undergoing genuinely unprecedented changes and presents fresh challenges to legal information professionals. Our sessions examine the issues, provide insights and practical tools for delegates to address those current challenges and embrace future opportunities.’
Professor Hector MacQueen, Professor of Private Law at the School of Law at Edinburgh University and Commissioner on the Scottish Law Commission panel, will start proceedings with his Keynote Address, “The Business of Scots Law”. He will be followed by Carol Tullo, Director of Information Policy and Services at The National Archives, who will speak on “Legislation.gov.uk – Essential for the Law Business”
There will be sessions on a wide variety of information management and career related topics from law librarians and business professionals including a presentation from Colin Frankland from LinkedIn on “Building Your Online Brand”. On Saturday 15th June the presentations will be on Business for Managers focusing on issues relating to the management of legal information services.
A Pre-Conference Seminar on “Managing Difficult Conversations – How to Say ‘No’ without Jeopardising your Career”, led by Alex Gould from Gould Training, is scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday 12 June.
The Exhibition will provide delegates with an opportunity to meet representatives of some 30 publishers and suppliers and there will be opportunities to see demonstrations of new products of interest to the profession.
