The French ban: The Law Society comments

News that France has banned the publication of statistical information about judges’ decisions shocked the legal industry this month.  Punishable by a maximum five-year prison sentence, the French legislature is cracking down on litigation analytics in the first ban of its type anywhere in the world. We get comment from The Law Society of England and Wales and UK-headquartered litigation analytics provider Solomonic.

Hip Legal Tech in Brooklyn at Legal Geek

Last week I attended the first-ever North American edition of the Legal Geek conference, led by Jimmy Vestbirk. Legal Geek is a startup community with over 5,000 members. It held “the world’s first LawTech startup conference in October 2016” in London, which attracted 1,000 attendees in its second year(2017).

BLM launches AI claims tool in collaboration with LSE as part of new suite of client offerings

Insurance risk and commercial law firm BLM has launched a suite of seven online analytics, case management and communications tools under the banner BLM Innovations, including Foresight; a flagship AI system developed by the London School of Economics and BLM’s data science team to help claims handlers decide who is at fault in a traffic accident.

Last week it appeared that launching your own alternative legal service provider is catching, as Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) became the latest firm to announce that it is launching a new service – BCLP Cubed – that integrates volume legal services and legal operations support with its complex legal work. Given the launch of ALSPs by Greenberg Traurig and Eversheds Sutherland in the last few days, there has been a temptation in the market to lump these new ventures together, but they are quite different.

iManage: Critical patch released for security vulnerability

iManage released a critical update on Wednesday with a fix for an iManage Work Server security vulnerability. Firms have been advised to apply the patch installer on all iManage on-premises environments with Work Servers running from 9.5 R2 through to 10.1.3.
