A former PwC partner and former COO of SYKE have launched a new AI legal services company on the premise that the next battleground in legal AI is no longer the software itself, but the ability to turn technology into measurable business outcomes.
Lewis Bretts (ex PWC) and Tom Mellor (ex SYKE) have launched Telon with a team of 15. They say they have a major platform partnership already signed, and delivery running across the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Argentina.
Telon runs a client’s legal AI on their behalf, deploys the lawyers and agents that do the work, and “stands behind the result”, priced by the outcome rather than the hour.
“Software is capability, but an outcome is what is valuable, and the space between them is where most legal AI investment stalls,” said Bretts, who started the company after leaving the PwC partnership earlier this year. He adds: “Until now, no-one has been willing to own that space. We are. We run the platform, we deploy the lawyers and the agents, and we stand behind what the client receives. The value of an enterprise software sale is no longer locked at signature.”
At the centre of the company is the Outcomes Engine, a managed service that turns a platform a client already owns into delivered work. Telon configures and activates the technology, forward-deploys AI-native lawyers trained on its own methodology, and runs the agents and playbooks behind them.
“Most services businesses launch with a founder and a plan to hire,” said Mellor. “We launch with a team of fifteen, a delivery engine running across four countries including the United States, a Big 4 Partnership and a major platform partner already live. The operational machinery that usually takes a services business years to build is in place on day one.”
