London – Permanent – £80,000

This is a fantastic opportunity to work for a highly reputable, international law firm as a Global Applications Architect. You will be responsible for overseeing the architecture and design for the company’s portfolio of applications. This person will steer the technical strategy/roadmap for application development – setting the standards, structure, tools etc. for development within the newly formed office of the CTO.

The application architect will drive the creation and adoption of architecture processes, standards, and a rationalised application portfolio for the company. In addition, they will be responsible for building a long-term vision of the company’s application architecture that will enable a simpler, more secure, and more efficient future-state. Paramount to the success of this role is the application architect’s ability to collaborate with and influence teams across the enterprise with the common goal of creating and simplifying global systems, functions and processes.

The role will entail but it not limited to the following:

Developing the global application strategy
Developing the global application architecture and standards
Developing and managing the architecture governance
Providing expertise regarding the integration of applications across the business
Determining specifications, designs and development across complex and business critical solutions
Leading functional teams across various projects
Providing architectural support in resolving technical issues.

Technical skills/experience required:

The right candidate will have been a skilled programmer/developer in their early career and will still understand code and be able to advise/mentor developers
In-depth knowledge of OO programming languages and frameworks (ideally .net – ASP .NET, c# .net; MVC, Sprint etc)
Enterprise applications architecture experience in a complex global environment with hundreds of applications. Mix of win forms/web forms development, inc SOA
Enterprise architecture frameworks – TOGAF/FEA/Zachman
Thought leader for application development – strategy/roadmap, coding standards, use of languages, frameworks, tools & techniques, application integration, Agile.

Soft skills required:

Strong communicator – an ability to talk to non-techies and techies alike.
The most technical person in the world would not be right for this role unless they have the communication skills and business-savvy to succeed.
Inspirational personality – an ability to evangelise the standards & frameworks set
Flexible approach to working hours – there’s a need to dial in to teleconferences with other global locations
