The Team

The Global Technology department is a critical team to the support of the business. The London based IT team, together with their global counterparts supports all offices in Baker & McKenzie and provides third line support to a demanding and highly professional user environment.

The Role

The Global Network Engineer is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Firm’s wide area and local area networks. This individual will critically analyse existing topology, process and procedure and suggest improvements. Interfacing with internal customers, external clients, and technical groups should be expected. Some travel will be involved to support Firm initiatives, systems, or projects. The position will require the individual to routinely provide large-scale project support on a regional and global basis. The successful applicant will be comfortable serving in both a technical leadership position and as a technical resource when required.

Responsibilities will include:

Leading the development and enforcement of infrastructure standards and policies as they relate to WAN and LAN technologies
Responsibility for assisting with day-to-day operation of the firm’s WAN infrastructure
Monitoring internal and external compliance with the Firm’s information security policies and procedures. Identifying non-compliant practices and assist with remediation
Participating in defining the Firm’s DR/BCP practices as required by governance best practices
Overseeing the testing and installation of all Global network and remote access services
Maintaining Global network hardware in a fully operational condition as mandated by internal and external SLA’s
Providing advanced network analysis and simulation skills in support of the Firm’s application requirements
Performing periodic performance assessments and generally monitor network performance versus established internal and external service level agreements
Remediating incidents within defined Service Level Agreement guidelines
Travelling as necessary to support security initiatives, systems, incidents, and projects
Skills and Experience Required

Essential

Possess a Computer Science Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Previous experience managing LAN and WAN devices
Extensive experience with Wide Area and Local Area Networks
In-depth understanding of concepts and operating principles of data communications and information systems hardware and software
Thorough knowledge of network monitoring systems, vendor-supplied packaged programs, macros, utilities, and other highly technical programs
Ability to gather and analyse facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and suggest solutions
Ability to adapt, integrate, and modify existing programs or vendor-supplied package programs for use with existing information systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Comfortable with public speaking and presentations
Respects and enjoys the diversity of cultural, social and academic backgrounds found in the Firm
Preferred

Knowledge or experience of Cisco CCNP and/or Cisco CCDP
