In this episode of Legal IT Insider’s The Inside View podcast, Caroline Hill speaks with Ian Fowles, director of IT at Wilkin Chapman Rollits, about how the UK top 200 law firm is using technology to improve client service and internal operations, as well as to productise its expertise.
Fowles reflects on his career in legal IT and explains how joining a firm with a strong commitment to technology investment enabled him to focus on innovation rather than simply maintaining day-to-day systems.
The discussion explores the importance of strong technology foundations, including cloud migration, modern devices, resilient infrastructure and a comprehensive cyber security strategy built around ISO 27001, continuous monitoring and staff awareness. Fowles emphasises that effective security relies as much on people and processes as it does on technology.
The conversation also examines the firm’s practical approach to AI. Wilkin Chapman Rollits is using Microsoft Copilot to improve productivity, automate repetitive administrative tasks and support high-volume legal processes. Fowles also discusses the firm’s AI-powered Adaptive HR platform, which provides SMEs with accessible HR guidance backed by its lawyers legal expertise. And he highlights other innovations such as Orbital Witness for real estate work and WhatsApp for business to make legal services more convenient and meet clients where they want to access advice.
