Last month Epiq Systems Inc hosted a panel debate in London on the impact of the recent Jackson changes to the civil procedure rules relating to costs, which came into force on 1 April 2013. The panel, featuring Master Colin Campbell, Senior Costs Judge; Michael Bacon, Costs Lawyer and Director of A&M Bacon Associates Limited; Vince Neicho, Litigation Support Manager at Allen & Overy; and Professor Dominic Regan, adviser to LJ Sir Rupert Jackson, considered the introduction of costs budgeting, the court’s increased focus on proportionality, and the changes to disclosure requirements and sanctions.

The panel provided practical advice upon how best to ensure compliance with the rules, highlighted the consequences of failing to comply with them and considered opportunities for litigants to manage their costs more effectively.
