Legal IT News: Aderant; nQueue; Worldox; Epiq; Clio and more
It’s been a busy deal week with Aderant announcing its go live at Maynard Cooper & Gale, implementation of nQueue’s iA Print Anywhere solution at Dentons and the launch of Worldox Cloud Canada hosted by LexCloud.ca. Meanwhile, Epiq has started offering Relativity in China, Foundation Software Group has launched a new knowledge management platform with support from firms such as Sidley Austin, and Clio has released a new integration with Halo NBI. That’s not to mention NetDocuments’ release of ndOffice 1.8, a new director of operations for nQueue, and a smattering of other industry news.
Wins and deals
“We need a solution that will grow with us,” said Ray Bullock, chief operating officer at the 230-lawyer firm. “We were looking for a modern and flexible solution that’s built for today as well as the future. We want to minimize use of third-party applications, and Aderant Expert’s all-in-one approach does that. We were also looking for a strategic partner to support our growth, and our relationship with Aderant has certainly become that.”
In addition to the core Expert modules, Maynard Cooper has rolled out Business Intelligence, Expert Time, On the Go Time, Found Time, Expert Expenses, Expert Collections, Expert Image and Advanced Workflow.
The international law firm has installed iA Print Anywhere in its London office and is planning to roll it out at other locations throughout the U.K.
iA Print Anywhere delays printing of jobs from a user’s desktop until the user arrives at a compatible device and authenticates, either by logging in or by using an ID (Prox) card. The result is that documents are no longer left in the device’s tray, sometimes for hours, creating a potential security risk.
In addition to the security benefits, iA Print Manager helps firms reduce cost and has a positive impact on the environment. “While most print jobs do get picked up eventually, many never get picked up at all,” said John Gilbert, senior vice president at nQueue. “That wasted paper ends up going directly to the shredder or recycling bin.”
Elsewhere, World Software Corporation, the makers of document and email management solution Worldox, has announced the launch of Worldox Cloud Canada, hosted exclusively by LexCloud.ca for Canadian law firms who want flexible document access in the cloud.
Available on October 1st, Worldox Cloud Canada is a software as a service DMS solution that will use a data center located within Canada and provide law firms with more options to take advantage of the cost and productivity benefits of the cloud.
“The LexCloud.ca and World Software teams have already enjoyed success with the on-premise version Worldox solution in many Canadian firms, and we are confident that this will translate to a great Worldox Cloud experience for Canadian lawyers,” said Ray Zwiefelhofer, president of World Software Corporation.
Product launches and upgrades
Epiq has added kCura’s Relativity to the solutions it offers in the People’s Republic of China. Epiq is a Relativity Orange-level, best in service hosting partner with data centers in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo as well as in the U.S., UK and Germany.
Epiq’s operations in China are supported by native-speaking, multilingual Relativity certified administrators, computer forensics, production, project management and review professionals.
“With litigation and regulatory investigations becoming increasingly complex and involving multiple jurisdictions, it is important for legal teams to be able to process and review information on a global scale,” said Bob Hopen, senior vice president and general manager, international markets.
With an interesting management team pedigree and clients including Sidley Austin, Foundation Software Group, a developer of next-generation enterprise software solutions for law firms, has launched Foundation Experience Management, a knowledge management software platform that makes it easy for law firms to leverage their collective work experience and the expertise of their lawyers.
The product, which is currently designed for use by large multi-office law firms and has been developed in conjunction with leading large law firms such as Sidley, was created by a team of veteran legal software developers led by Nate Fineberg and Brett Balmer. Fineberg is the former CEO of Interface Software. Interface was the creator of InterAction, which is used by more than 70 percent of the AmLaw 100 law firms and was sold to LexisNexis in 2004. Balmer is an industry-leading technologist and was the founder of Scout Solutions, an innovative CRM software company.
“We believe that Foundation Experience Management will disrupt the market for experience management tools within law firms and change the landscape in terms of how firms leverage this knowledge across nearly every aspect of developing business, serving clients and managing practices,” said Kate Cain, director of market intelligence at Sidley. “This platform takes what is often thought of as ‘just a marketing thing’ and transforms it into what literally can be the foundation of a firm’s efforts to make the most of its experience and expertise in order to develop stronger connections with its clients.”
The platform integrates information from other business applications such as time & billing, CRM, HR and web content management, and the platform can easily be incorporated into the firm’s intranet or SharePoint portals.
Cloud-based legal practice management software provider Clio has released a new integration with Halo NBI that will ease client intake for legal professionals, as well as facilitating syncs with inbound marketing platform Hubspot and AML search provider InfoTrack.
Halo NBI is a client intake app that allows lawyers to process new clients and matters quickly, efficiently, and accurately.
It mitigates the risk of mistakes being made in the client due diligence process by performing conflict, anti-money laundering, and identity checks along with risk assessments of each new client entered into Clio.
Derek Fitzpatrick, Clio’s general manager for EMEA added “Thanks to this integration, busy lawyers can capture all of the client information they require via web forms that will automatically migrate the data into their Clio account, leading to less paper usage, fewer administrative hours, and improved client experience.”
NetDocuments has announced the release of ndOffice 1.8. Significant features of the latest version include an ndOffice activity center, a document-specific information panel, right click functionality and advanced Adobe Acrobat integrations.
“Whether it’s the automatic check-in or seamlessly performing day-to-day tasks in Microsoft, the ease of use and focus on usability that ndOffice provides has dramatically improved efficiency and productivity across the entire firm,” said Angela Dowd, director of practice innovation at Burns & Levinson LLP.
Version 1.8 leverages NetDocuments’ strategic partnership with Microsoft and enhanced integration of Office 365.
nQueue has appointed Henry Chadd as its new director of operations, EMEA. Chadd is responsible for all product installations and support in the EMEA region and is the senior executive in nQueue’s London office.
Chadd’s role includes consulting with clients to ensure all projects are installed and supported in both the EMEA region and on a global basis. He has direct input on the shaping of future products and new versions of current products to meet client needs. Chadd is also the liaison between nQueue’s clients in EMEA and its senior management and development teams in the United States.
RAVN Systems won the ‘Supplier Innovation – Technology Award’ at Legal Week’s Innovation Awards, thanks to its artificial intelligence robot, RAVN ACE, which reads, interprets and extracts specific information from documents. It converts unstructured data into a structured output, in a fraction of time it takes a human – and with a higher degree of accuracy.
Berwin Leighton Paisner won the award for ‘Best Use of Technology’ for its use of RAVN ACE at Legal Week’s British Legal Awards 2015.
Radiant Law has developed an online calculator to help in-house teams estimate the potential savings they could make by changing the way their commercial contracts are supported.
The calculator estimates how much time and money they could save by closing contracts faster and reducing the in-house legal time supporting high volume contracting.
