Legal IT Insider Report: Beyond the perimeter – Security and risk in the age of legal AI

In a forthcoming report from Legal IT Insider, we examine how the security foundations of the law firm are being re‑written as AI becomes embedded in everyday legal work. Traditional perimeter‑based security models were already under strain from cloud platforms and hybrid working; generative AI has finished the job. The report argues that the most significant shift is not technical but organisational: lawyers are now both the greatest source of risk and the most important security control.

We look at where the real risk now sits – from shadow AI use and prompt‑driven data leakage, to privilege erosion, cross‑border data exposure and AI‑specific incident response.

And we examine the specifics of legal practice – privilege, confidentiality, regulatory exposure, client trust – for a world in which AI is no longer optional, the environment cannot be fully controlled, and resilience matters more than prevention.

Written by our lead analyst Neil Cameron, we will be publishing the report in October this year. You can sign up and receive the report straight to your inbox HERE.
