With a lot of offices preparing for the Easter slowdown, here's a diary note for next Tuesday (14 April) – as that is the day Microsoft ends mainstream support for Windows XP and Office 2003. Extended (ie paid for) support will be available after that date and Microsoft will continue to provide security updated until 4th August 2014.

Curiously, it has also been announced that Microsoft will include a downgrade facility in its upcoming Windows 7 product, to allow users to downgrade to both Vista (does anyone use it anyway) and Windows XP. The downgrade facility is to allow organizations to cope with upgrading to Win7 and not having the problem of new hardware running on a different version of the OS to their installed hardware. The downgrade facility will be available until April 2010.
