DTI has just announced its intent to purchase Merrill Corporation’s Legal Solutions business, a provider of litigation support and information management solutions for law firms and corporate legal departments. The acquisition of Merrill Corporation’s Legal Solutions group substantially expands the ability of DTI to support clients on a global basis with added legal service operations in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia.

“Not only will this transaction be the largest in our company’s history, it will provide DTI clients with significant expansive global reach and new service offerings,” said John Davenport Jr., chief executive officer and founder of DTI.

Merrill employees within the Legal Solutions group and some support services employees will also transition to DTI as a part of the acquisition. “We view this as a smart strategic move for both companies,” said Rusty Wiley, chief executive officer of Merrill Corporation. “This will allow us to step up investment in our core businesses and technology platforms and ensure our Legal Solutions clients continue to receive an exceptional service experience.”

The transaction is anticipated to close during the second fiscal quarter. The terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

NOTE: DTI has not acquired the whole of the Merrill Corporation, just the Legal Solutions business which Merrill describes as a “divestiture”.
