Network Team Analyst (12 Months FTC) – Herbert Smith Freehills

The Network team are responsible for the strategic direction, operational and project delivery of the data networking environment. This includes:

Corporate LAN/WAN Environment
WAN Optimisation – Riverbed, Packeteer
Cisco switching and Routing
Cisco Wireless
Network Monitoring/Management Tools- Entuity, Ciscoworks, PRIME, Solarwinds
Firewall and Network Security – Checkpoint, Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet
Internet Services – Bluecoat Proxy SG, Proxy AV and Reporter.
IDS Oversight
Data Centre Environments
This role requires excellent technical, initiative and communication skills to ensure consistent delivery of services. It is necessary that an awareness of the environment across all platforms is understood and that this knowledge is articulated clearly at all times. Work as an integral member of the team. Effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs, executing a proactive and creative approach to resolving business problems through the use of technology. To progress assigned projects and tasks with the aim of delivering them on time and to budget using agreed Project Management procedures. Work with third party vendors (e.g. Cisco, Verizon) to facilitate problem resolution. Assess and recommend architectural designs/changes to systems in response to performance issues, growth requirements etc. Work closely with the firm’s International offices, with a possibility of travel to ensure they are fully catered for.

Key responsibilities

As a key part of the role within the Networks team, the analyst will be working closely with the Infrastructure Architects as a subject matter expert (SME) in any or all of the technologies described above to deliver products as part of project teams. The analyst will be working with the Networks team to support the data networking environment within Herbert Smith Freehills on a 24 hour, on call rota, as well as part of an early, core and late shift rota in the capacity of 3rd line support. The Team also work with the rest of IT, other Support teams and the firm as a whole to:

Agree networking hardware, software and managed services’ technology direction and roadmap(s)
Support all above technologies on a day to day operational basis
Deliver projects where the above technologies form part or all of the product
Qualifications required

Cisco certification (CCNP preferred but not essential)
ITIL Certification (Minimum V3 foundation)
Sound evidence of working experience in as many or all of the above technologies in a similar, 3rd line role
Work based competencies

Working with vendors to maintain, measure and manage WAN
Maintain, measure and manage all LAN switches
Day to day monitoring of capacity and availability of all networks globally
Creation and provision of capacity and availability reports as required
Work with suppliers to ensure provide structured cabling
Ensure network patching is maintained and managed to an acceptable level
Manage, monitor and maintain network optimisation devices such as Riverbeds, Packeteers etc
Monitor networks on a global basis using incumbent network monitoring tools
Work with security officer to ensure network security is provided and the firm’s systems are protected including the maintenance and provision of IDS
Understanding firewall technologies and how they fit into the firm’s global network
Monitoring, maintaining and measuring all network management devices within the DMZ
Maintenance and management of datacentre environments (outside of server and UC racks, working with Facilities department)
