As AI shifts from automation to orchestration, in-house legal teams are redesigning workflows, cutting external spend, and redefining their role, moving from advisors to builders of the systems that now underpin legal work.
At technology company and investor Prosus, for example, the legal team is using almost 300 agents each targeting specific workflows in the department, such as EU AI Act compliance scanning or deal summary generation. Some agents even directly integrate with law firm systems. These are not pilots bolted onto existing tasks. Rather than automate what lawyers already did, Prosus rebuilt the work around the agents, which now span every practice area from corporate and IP to compliance and M&A.
