Cloud computing businesses will be a big target for hackers in 2018 according to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which also warns that there will be more huge data breaches along the lines of Equifax in the year ahead.

Editor’s Comment: Let’s get a grip in 2018

Welcome back and hello 2018. Even for those of us who eschew hype and hyperbole, 2017 was a big year for legal technology, characterised at many firms by a lack of clear firm-wide technology strategy and IT teams who are, ironically, being undermined from all quarters by the new wave of enthusiasm for shiny things. And at ILTA Insight 2017, legal technology vendors were repeatedly criticised for not knowing their clients well enough or how their technology fits in with law firms’ long-term ambitions. In 2018, we argue it’s time to up your game.

No MBO yet but Simon Hill takes over as CEO of Tikit

Following persistent rumours of a management buy-out from BT, Tikit’s COO Simon Hill is to take over from Katherine Ainley as CEO of Tikit from 1st January 2018. Ainley, who was appointed as CEO  in 2015, following BT’s acquisition of Tikit in 2013, will move into the role of managing director of BT’s “Better World” business portfolio. While not cutting loose from BT entirely, yet, the promotion to CEO will afford Hill more freedom to steer the strategic direction of Tikit, which is increasingly regarded in the market as an unhappy BT bedfellow.

Cloud computing – take the Gene Kelly approach

The term cloud computing has been around for a long time, being popularised with Amazon releasing its Elastic Compute Cloud (“EC2”) as far back as 2006, says Peter Owen of Lights-On Consulting. The world has changed a lot since 2006!
