“Some commentators claimed our patent might be difficult
to defend due to the existence of prior art. In one blog post,
ironically, the author
cited a technique called LSI and work by Dr Thorsten Joachims around
support
vector machines (SVMs). The author was apparently unaware that Recommind
invented and holds another patent on PLSA (its uses an algorithm that
was
invented to overcome some of the serious limitations of LSI) and that Dr
Joachims was an early advisor and technical contributor to Recommind.”
