The Team
The Networks Team is an integral part of the Infrastructure & Platform Services function within Clifford Chances Global IT Operations organization. We are a high performing global team, who deliver a stable, secure and scalable service for Clifford Chance, in accordance with ITIL best practice. We operate a 24x7x365 operation tasked with engineering, implementing and maintaining our global operations.
The Role
Reporting to the Network Service Owner, the Principle Network Engineer is…
Responsible and accountable for the implementation and support of our secure multinational network, including global and regional data centers, LAN, WAN, WiFi, Load Balancing, Firewall and Proxy/URL filtering.
You will have experience of working in high impact, mission critical environments where service matters and exceeding expectations is the norm.
You will be an excellent communicator with effective influencing skills essential in order to function effectively in a matrix-managed environment and liaise effectively with global colleagues and team members at all levels.
This role requires a strong background in Layer 2, Layer 3 & Layer 4-7 routing, switching and application switching technologies.
You will be familiar with a variety of testing tools, networking technologies and techniques to accurately troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems associated with the service, application and network hardware and software.
You will be capable of mentoring and leading the team and deputising for the Network Service Owner in their absence.
You will be a recognised expert in your field.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include
Develop and enforce standards and operating procedures to ensure quality and productivity with the Network portfolio.
Develop system installation and configuration documents as references.
Lead Design activities for network topologies.
Identify and correct network non-compliance issues.
Lead product lifecycle management activities across the Network portfolio
Working with Enterprise Architecture develop the network roadmap
Technical investment planning including budget preparation, timeline determination.
Technical escalation for P1 incidents and lead troubleshooting of complex outages, including recommend corrective actions.
Oversight of Problem management activities.
Recommend new networking technologies to improve performance, reliability and scalability.
Work closely with other Network Engineers to plan and complete assigned tasks within deadlines.
Ensure that the network infrastructure is fully documented and performing as required for internal and customer SLA guarantees and expectations by means of specific metrics and measurements.
Provide technical expertise across the organization relating to Networks, including support to Operations teams in the on-going maintenance and surveillance of related networks and applications.
Presentation of Roadmap updates or Service Reviews to key Stakeholders
Ensure that the network infrastructure is fully documented and performing as required for internal and customer SLA guarantees and expectations by means of specific metrics and measurements.
Delivering projects that are business and operations driven
Change Management – response to network change requests for project related/task work based on the internal change management processes; following change management processes.
Network Management – Usage of tools to aid in support, monitoring and management of the network including Solarwinds, EOTS, Net Flow, Packet Capture (e.g. wireshark), Riverbed Steelheads.
Capacity planning across all areas of the Network service portfolio.
Provide support of and for Incident and Problem management activities.
Liaising with regional offices
Skills and Qualifications
Key Areas of Experience
You will have strong experience of internetworking, including demonstration of deep knowledge of Cisco technologies and best practices. You will have considerable first-hand experience of providing IT support/service in a pressurised environment, ideally within legal or investment banking and have developed and enhanced processes.
Minimum CCIE R&S qualified with extensive hands-on, demonstrable expertise in implementing, managing and troubleshooting Cisco networking technologies.
Excellent experience in planning, implementing and maintaining enterprise-class global networks.
Must have specific expertise of large production Wide Area Networks
You will be highly organised and have proven ability to operate well under pressure, working to tight deadlines. Leading complex investigations to root cause analysis.
You will be able to identify tasks and manage them effectively to completion autonomously without supervision.
Lead design discussions and product lifecycle roadmaps
Mandatory Technical Skills
The Principle Engineer will be a recognized expert in the following areas:
Cisco Routing & Switching
BGP and OSPF routing
Policy maps for routing
MPLS, DMVPN, IPSec VPN, TACACS authentication
VLAN, Spanning Tree, L3 interfaces, HSRP, EIGRP, TCP/IP
QoS (Quality of Service), ACL (Access Control Lists)
Cisco Wireless, Cisco ISE, Packet Capture, Netflow
Load balancing and application content switching
Mandatory Platform Exposure
Exposure and strong experience of the following is a must for this role:
Cisco IOS switching lines
Cisco ASR and ISR routers
F5 GTM and LTM load balancers
Preferable Technical Skills
The following skills are desired in addition to the mandatory for this role:
CCIE Security and/or Collaboration advantageous
WAN optimisation
VoIP
Firewalls & Web Proxy / URL filtering
Mobile Device Management, Good, MobileIron etc.
Systems management knowledge of Windows OS, Linux/Unix would be an advantage. scripting knowledge (e.g. peal, VB)
Preferable Platform Exposure
Experience of the following is desired in addition to the mandatory:
