Midlands law firm QualitySolicitors Talbots has opted for SOS Connect legal software from Solicitors Own Software (SOS) in a what is described as a six-figure deal. The firm, which is headquartered in Dudley and has six other offices across Worcestershire and the Black Country, has signed up to install SOS Connect for integrated practice and case management.

Established almost 200 years ago, the firm has operated under the QualitySolicitors brand since 2011 and advises clients across the full range of residential and commercial property, family, trusts and estates, company and commercial and employment matters, as well as private and publicly-funded crime. It is now working with the team at SOS to install SOS Connect in its conveyancing division, with a view to a complete firm-wide conversion across all workflows later this year.

“We have enjoyed a strong period of growth over the past six years,” says Martyn Morgan, director at QualitySolicitors Talbots. “The recession hit us hard as our business had been very property-based, but in recent years we have made three successful acquisitions, which have extended our geographical reach and areas of work discipline, with the result that staff numbers have risen from 60 to 170.”

Mr. Morgan says the firm’s rapid expansion soon highlighted the fact that an overhaul of its workflow processes was necessary. “Our main objective was to remove the ‘clunkiness’ from processes and to make things more seamless. Our back office processes in particular had become too labour intensive and we wanted a system which would bring about a transformation. Where previously it took ten clicks on a keyboard to achieve one matter, if you like, we wanted to be in the situation whereby one click would achieve ten matters.

“Adopting SOS Connect will enable our conveyancing team to move towards becoming ‘paperless’ and then, when we feel comfortable, that pilot will be extended across the other, less commoditised areas of the practice.”
