We currently have an opportunity for a Software Developer to join the IT Department within a leading Scottish law firm. The role includes designing, development, testing and maintenance of the applications that support the Firm. They will also have responsibility for maintaining and developing SQL databases and reporting environment.

The role requires the use of a variety of development languages and technologies. Considerable experience in database technologies is essential to the role. Experience in the development of applications using legal technology platforms such as Elite and Visualfiles is desirable. Applicants should have a good degree in a relevant technical discipline e.g. Computer Science, Information Technology or Software Development.

The right person will play a key role within a hard-working, dynamic team. The systems team are involved in a variety of innovative projects, geared towards improving efficiency within the Firm. A key project developed by the team has recently been recognised with a nomination for the ‘Innovation Award’ at the Scott + Co Legal Awards.

Role & Responsibilities
• Maintain and develop the SQL reporting environment in use within the Firm
• Provide expertise to assist in the development of the Firm’s IT systems
• Assist with future and existing development projects; including requirements analysis, design and implementation
• Taking and assisting with IT Service Desk calls

• Must have a degree, ideally in Computer Science or a related field

Required
The role requires proficiency in a variety of programming languages and technologies, including:
• Microsoft SQL Server 2005+ administration
• Designing, developing and maintaining Microsoft Report Models
• Development using SQL reporting tools; Report Builder and Reporting Services
• Transact SQL; including views, stored procedures and triggers
• Database design
• Advanced Excel analysis skills including pivot tables and external data source analysis
• Systems design and testing

Desirable
• Visualfiles development experience
• Knowledge of Elite PMS and underlying database structure
• ITIL qualified
• Agile methodologies
• Visual Studio.Net
