It’s a eclectic mix – even by our standards – this weekend, with three anniversaries and a kangaroo photo competiton to announce…

First off it’s Happy Telecommunications Day – which this week celebrated the 175th anniversary Cooke and Wheatsone being granted a UK patent for the electrical telegraph in 1837. It is also the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Telstar communications satellite in 1962. And, predictably, here are The Tornados playing the hit record of the same name…

Next up its Happy Birthday Lord Halsbury – distinguished Victorian-era judicial gent best known in the UK for Halsbury’s Laws – although Butterworths aka LexisNexis UK’s head office in Chancery Lane in named after him. If he were alive today, he’d be 189 and to celebrate this event, Lexis has changed the name of its LexisNexis Legal Terms smartphone app to Halsbury’s Legal Terms. LexisNexis have also made this quirky animation to celebrate the anniversary http://lexislegalintelligence.co.uk/intelligence/happy-birthday-lord-halsbury
– it takes a while to download (we think the Lexis server is also 189 years old) but we like the punchline “The law is not an ass, it’s an app.”

Finally, the Kangaroo Photo Competition – no really. It’s KiAh Roo – the nQueue Billback promo soft-toy who has just launched a photo competition. You’ve got until 30th November to submit your photos to the Roo’s FaceBook page and you will be automatically entered into the competition. The choice of prizes includes a new iPad or Canon EOS 600D camera. The winning picture to be decided by Orange Rag editor Charles Christian. (BTW the photo shown above rerally has been taken by someone with an underwater camera.)
