Our client is a top 30 international law firm with offices across the UK. The firm is undergoing a period of rapid expansion and to support this expansion is now looking for a number of new hires within its development team based in Chelmsford. This is a role for an experienced SQL Database Developer to work within the firms Solution Architecture team.

The main responsibilities will be:
Working under the direction of the firm’s Solutions Architect and alongside the Development team and Project Managers as part of projects to develop and implement new applications and upgrades and changes to existing systems
Maintaining and developing skills in database and development technologies currently used by the firm, particularly SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS and any other technologies as required by the Head of IT

Database creation, development and administration

Creating performance based databases within SQL 2005/2008
Creating and amending stored procedures
Manipulation of data between databases
Use of triggers and functions to maintain data and data integrity
Documentation
Performing appropriate database administration tasks when required

Database maintenance & Performance

Setting appropriate maintenance schedules and capacity plans
Reviewing and improving maintenance of databases
Monitoring database performance, identifying bottlenecks and proposing and implementing methods to optimise performance
Setting up monitoring thresholds and alerts to achieve a fix before failure
Documentation

Testing and documentation

Performing appropriate pre-release testing of database developments
Advising test staff
Documenting developments and adhering to the change control processes and procedures

Support

3rd line support, including diagnoses and resolution of database issues, faults and rectification

You will need the following technical skills and experience:

Essential

• SQL server 2005/2008 (MCTS)
• Visual Studio/BIS
• Excel/MSOffice
• Previously worked as part of a development team
• SQL database creation and maintenance
• Writing T-SQL, creation of jobs, stored procedures and functions
• Use of SQL triggers
• Data transformation
• Creation of data sources
• SQL Server database experience

Desirable

• SSIS
• SSRS
• Use of different reporting tools (Crystal, SQL Reporting Services, etc)
