Startup Alley: new partnership for myBarrister + new version & new funding at XRef
More new startup news, featuring a new partnership for myBarrister plus new funding and a new software release for XRef.
myBarrister, the online find-a-barrister service, is partnering with Hewetson Shah LLP, the Bar Council’s exclusive service partner for legal search & recruitment, to further build on the established direct-access barrister platform. Hewetson Shah will now play a pivotal role in the growth of myBarrister, acting as an ambassador for direct access to the Bar, promoting the value and benefits of the service.
Ronald DeKoven, CEO of myBarrister, said “The website went live in June last year and since then strong and consistent growth has proven our business model. We’re now moving to the next phase in the development of myBarrister and are focused on significantly increasing the number of member barristers on the site. We are confident that working closely with Hewetson Shah will enable us to achieve this goal and establish myBarrister as the leading direct access portal in the UK.”
On the back of a successful 2013, things have gone from strength to strength for the lawyer-based software firm XRef. Their initial success attracted funding from a consortium of investors and their advisory panel now consists of partners from UK Magic Circle firms and US White Shoe firms. Combined with revenue from a number of sales, XRef have invested heavily on product development and XRef Version 2.0 was launched in March 2014. The new version contains a number of new features such as a clause cross-reference checker.
Travis Leon, the Executive Director at XRef said “We had expected the new features to be well-received because we developed many of them with direct client input. However, the response from practising lawyers has been even better than we could have hoped. It has prompted a number of additional feature requests and our development pipeline is growing fast.”
