Our client is a highly regarded law firm with offices across the UK. The firm is going through a period of expansion and is now seeking a System Support Engineer to join its South-West London based team. The postholder will be responsible for day-to-day administration and support of the network and server environment across the firm’s four offices and working alongside the team manager on new projects.

Key duties will include:
• Maintain and troubleshoot servers and their associated operating systems and software
• Monitor and test system performance, provide statistics and reports, implementing policies, procedures and technologies to ensure appropriate system availability, resilience and security
• Implement changes to the IT infrastructure, including hardware, operating systems, systems software, and associated peripherals according to specifications and agreed technical standards
• Testing of disaster recovery procedures
• Ensure that the firms IT equipment, systems, services, and facilities are compliant with disaster recovery plans and procedures
• Maintenance of the Server hardware and software asset inventory
• Maintenance of effective voice and data links to other firm locations
• Provision of 3rd-line support to the helpdesk

Core Skills

• Windows Server 2003/2008/2008R2
• Exchange Server 2007/2010
• A well developed, practical understanding of network technologies and protocols including TCP/IP, DNS & VLANs
• Hands-on experience of fully-managed switches (preferably HP Procurve or Cisco)
• Knowledge of Backup methods and strategies
• Active Directory and Network management skills
• Strong Citrix (Xenapp 6) skills (CCA a distinct advantage)
• Understanding of information security principals, issues and solutions
• Well-developed troubleshooting skills
• Strong interpersonal and customer service oriented skills
Desirable Skills
• Experience of Linux proxy/Load balancers
• Exposure to Windows Server 2012
• A good appreciation of SAN storage solutions (NetApp)
• CCNA, or an understanding of spanning-tree, layer 3 routing protocols, sub-netting and QoS
• General knowledge of WAN/MPLS optimisation technologies (preferably RiverBed)
• 2 years’ experience of working in a Law firm or professional services environment
• Experience working with High-Availability technologies for Exchange 2010 and Hyper-V.
• Experience working with Mitel Phones and SIP trunking
• ITILv3 Certification
• Hands-on experience of HyperV
