Build 2024: Microsoft introduces custom copilots from SharePoint

With Microsoft Build 2024 well underway, the announcements from Seattle are coming thick and fast, including the introduction of the ability to create custom copilots within SharePoint. You can create a copilot where your information is stored, share the copilot with others, and use it like a digital assistant to surface information that is grounded in the content.

Microsoft says that in just a few clicks, you— whether an admin or business user— can create and share a copilot from SharePoint that’s grounded in the curated content you choose. You can also share your copilots with others in the likes of Teams chat and email. Microsoft said in a blog post announcing the news: “It’s like a subject matter expert ready to help you, your team, department, or even the whole company while respecting all your existing security settings and permissions.”

Marcel Lang, chief operating officer of SharePoint-based document management system Epona, said: “For Epona users this means that they can create custom copilots on the documents inside the matter they select. It also means that users can only select curated documents / data without being afraid of security, hallucinations, or use of wrong-non curated data. As each matter will have this ability you can create those “custom copilots” per matter or even create multiple copilots per matter.”

General availability will be this summer and you can check out the Microsoft video here:
