“LOD’s tech business SYKE” launches in Australia

In an announcement that confirms that legal engineering business SYKE is now part of flexible lawyering company LOD Group, SYKE has launched in Australia to help drive digital transformation and new operating models for LOD’s clients.

Founded in 2016, SYKE operates in UK/Europe, the USA and now APAC, helping legal teams choose, design and implement legal technology. It employs more than 130 lawyers and former lawyers, who specialise in legal tech engineering.

The announcement this week says that SYKE became part of the LOD Group earlier this year. LOD in March this year invested an undisclosed sum in SYKE, in what was described at the time as a non-exclusive strategic partnership. However, LOD’s CEO Tom Hartley this week told Legal IT Insider: “When we made our investment in SYKE earlier this year they became part of the LOD Group, enabling us to offer clients market leading solutions to their people and technology needs.  Further cooperation and integration is being driven on a case-by-case basis by client demand. SYKE’s launch in Australia is one recent example of this and we are delighted to be able to introduce scaled technology services to clients in that market.”

By combining their expertise in talent and legal technology, LOD and SYKE are able to provide legal teams with all-inclusive solutions to help structure, focus and deliver operational improvement by having teams of lawyers boosted by technology, data and project management.

James Kenney will head SYKE within Australia. Kenney has been with LOD for over six years working with clients to support their requirements across people, services and tech and has significant experience in legal technology solutions and project management.

Alistair Maiden, CEO and founder of SYKE, said: “Having James Kenney leading our Australian operation will only see us go from strength to strength in the region, allowing us to help more clients achieve operational efficiencies to future-proof their legal teams. We’re also really pleased to be able to continue our current rate of expansion getting colleagues on the ground in more regions following the opening of new centres of operation across Europe, USA and South Africa in 2021.”
