Podcast: Burnout in the UK legal profession contributes to the Great Resignation

We speak about lawyer burnout with Legatics co-founder and CEO Anthony Seale, and Lucy Shurwood, a partner and head of the advanced delivery team at Pinsent Masons, which is a founding member of the Mindful Business Charter.

Legatics recently conducted a survey in collaboration with YouGov, which found that over nine in ten lawyers experience stress or burn out at some point, with more than a quarter experiencing it on a daily basis.

We discuss how law firms are combatting this and how the Mindful Business Charter is helping to bring about meaningful changes in the way firms behave and the expectations they have of lawyers. And we discuss whether advances in technology are solving or making the pressure on lawyers worse.

Seale is a former associate at a magic circle firm and describes himself as a burnt-out lawyer. Has the environment for lawyers improved post-pandemic? Is burn out contributing to the Great Resignation? And are law firms aware of what steps they need to take to retain their staff?
