eDiscovery and early case assessment platform X1 has announced a $5.1 million Series B funding; Chicago-headquartered cloud eDiscovery provider Reveal Data has appointed Johanna Mustapic as vice president of business development for Canada; and Women in eDiscovery, a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization that brings together women interested in technology related to the legal profession, has expanded its leadership team with the addition of Heather Townsend in the role of IT specialist. X1 raises $5.1m Series B funding
eDiscovery and early case assessment platform X1 has announced a $5.1 million Series B funding round led by Palisades Growth Capital. Former head of HP Software, George Kadifa, also participated in the funding, which is said to have benefited from the company’s strong, recent traction and exceptional management team led by CEO Craig Carpenter and CTO Brent Botta. Both Carpenter and Botta are veterans of eDiscovery, GRC and cybersecurity startups like Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT), Recommind and Guidance Software (NASDAQ: OTEX). X1 will use the Series B proceeds to hire “aggressively in development and sales, and to expand its global channel network and brand to meet rapidly increasing demand.

The global enterprise governance, risk and compliance (GRC) market is expected to be worth $64.62 billion by 2025 while the eDiscovery market will hit $17.32 billion by 2023. Reveal Data appoints Joanna Mustapic as vice president of BD for Canada
Elsewhere, Chicago-headquartered cloud eDiscovery provider Reveal Data has appointed Johanna Mustapic as vice president of business development for Canada. The addition complements a new data center in Montreal.
Mustapic will focus on growing the company’s presence in Canada. She began her legal career with positions at the Canadian Department of Justice and Miller Thomson LLP. In 2000, she founded Triage Data Solutions, a document management company that specializes in eDiscovery, litigation support and evidence gathering. Reveal Data and Triage Data Solutions will retain a strategic working partnership to further business development.
Reveal Data announced in August that it has more than 19 data centers across five continents. While the latest data center was established in Tokyo, it has also launched one in Montreal as ‘proof of its commitment to Canada.’ The variety of locations empowers law firms, corporate legal departments and service providers to host data where needed and benefit from a scalable and secure infrastructure.
Women in eDiscovery expands leadership team
And Women in eDiscovery, a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization that brings together women interested in technology related to the legal profession, has expanded its leadership team with the addition of Heather Townsend in the role of IT specialist, as well as new positions that are open on the leadership team. Since its inception in 2007, Women in eDiscovery has grown from 30 members to thousands of members in 30 chapters worldwide. The organization provides women opportunities to help each other grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition.
Townsend started Townsend Synergies LLC in 2019 to apply her business acumen to the eDiscovery space, while integrating and innovating traditional eDiscovery workflows to meet the unique needs of clients. She is a Relativity Certified Administrator with over six years of eDiscovery experience, with her expertise focused in IT and Relativity infrastructure. She obtained her paralegal certificate from Georgetown University; she has a B.A. in psychology from the University of Vermont and an MBA from the University of Virginia.
